This all-day event was held on Sunday, 22 July 2001 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, Sussex to raise money for the NSPCC and the National Centre for young People with Epilepsy. It was also an occasion to promote the many different skating disciplines - speed, hockey, artistic, recreational on inlines or quads. There were many demonstrations/exhibitions throughout the day and Trade Stands for the crowds to wander around to look at the latest equipment to purchase, or to hire.
The highlight of the day was the marathon - skaters would need to complete 11 circuits of the motor racing course to cover the 26.2 miles. We have never attempted a distance skate before but, because it was for a good cause - and we had been sponsored, we were determined to complete the distance. We successfully completed the Marathon and had a great time doing it - and without any blisters too!
A great vote of thanks must go to the organiser of this event, Barry Bridger - it had everything that a good family day out could possibly want and it can only get bigger and even better next year - we'll be there!
